lovely links: 4.30.12

So, these links were meant for Friday, whoops.  I am getting excited about going to Charleston later this week with Lissy.  We haven’t lived in the same city since we graduated from high school, so this trip is a real treat in terms of spending time together, and also visiting a place we have always wanted to go.  Better late than never.  Last weeks lovely links: Read more…

ch ch changes

I told you earlier this week that I will be traveling a little in May and spending some quality time with David in Chicago.  This is all leading up to a summer where I will be making some changes.  I am headed to Dallas at the end of May to return to my old nanny job.  It is just for the summer, and David will be traveling still, so we might be apart a little more than usual, but it shouldn’t be that different.  I excited to spend the summer in the same city as my family and a few dear friends.  Last, but not least, oh how I missed the kiddos! I am beyond excited to be traveling to both Charleston and Chicago in May.  I am heading to Charleston with my lovely friend Lissy for a quick little trip that we are over the moon about.  After that I am headed to Chicago with David.  I’ll stay in Deerfield with him during the week and then we will stay in Chicago over the weekend.  Lissy and I have been digging through the archives of Everyday Musings to make sure we have a proper list of places to go and dine in Charleston.  Olivia is such a Charleston devotee and her blog makes the city seem so delightful. my love

This weekend was pretty darn good. David and I went on an actual date night, there was lots of cuddling, and the weather was gorgeous. The weekend with David has me thinking about love. I spent a lot of time thinking about our relationship and what our love was before the wedding in March when I was writing my vows. We are now back to our pre-wedding lives, and I am thinking about it again, in a different context.

lovely links: 4.20.12

This week was, in a word, uneventful.  I wrote thank you notes, watched movies, and took the dogs on walks.  Oh, we did have a possum take up residence on the deck for a night.  Now, “deck” is misleading.  Our yard/deck thing is a seven foot deep wooden box with a patch of concrete. Right now the neighbors we share a fence with have some type of bush growing over the top of the fence into our space and we are enjoying the greenery.  The dogs started going seriously all out insane Wednesday night and when I went to look to find a possum, just hangin’.  I think it might have been terrified, but it was a possum. It’s emotions were not easily readable. As best I can tell it was mostly blind and the dogs were clambering at the door.  It took that guy about an hour to walk in a very slow circle sniffing the air and looking for the way out.  That was it, all the excitement that was had here. salon day/ girl’s night

I realized that I haven’t really shared the wedding much, and not sharing/over-sharing is really not like me.  I am putting together more pictures and stories, but for now here was a little event the wedding week that I loved.  Read more…

what is it about red heads?

Today I watched Crazy Stupid Love.  I saw it in theaters last summer and re-watched it today.  OH, I love it. To me, it has all the elements of a fantastic movie- love, sweet moments, great makeover, and different story-lines intersecting.  What it reminded me of today is how much I love a good redhead.  Natural or not.  Emma Stone and Julianne Moore were both breathtaking with their locks.  I would almost try it, except that my hair is so fine it would probably just crumble off my head with that kind of color treatment and maintenance.  My sister is thinking of going more red and I totally support it.  I mean…I think the images will be enough to convince you! xo Read more…

i want to be BFF with mindy kaling

Hello friends, sorry for the mini-absence.  I am struggling right now, hence the absence.  In an effort to pull myself up I did two things that made me smile.  I watched Footloose ( 1984 version) and convinced David that next weekend we would learn a choreographed dance together. No, I did not learn anything from the dance/arm/cabinet incident.  Secondly, I re-listened to Mindy Kaling’s book Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?  Ok.  I dare you to read this book and not come away from it wanting to be Mindy’s best friend.  She is so warm and funny. The book is a collections of essays and reflections on really everything.  She talks about getting her dream job, not peaking in high school, the rules of friendship, love, being a daughter, and her healthy body image.  I seriously want to meet her and for her to like me.  She sounds awesome. a little fem

There are so many trends that I love right now, but romantic and feminine details will always steal my heart.

belated weekend glimpse

I had a lovely Easter weekend.  As lovely as a weekend can be when on pain killers and unable to breathe out of one’s nose.  Seriously, I wish I had bruising from this surgery, because I feel like I had to compensate for the lack of visual reminder that I was in pain.  Yeah, I tried to milk it, but it was a pretty no-nonsense crowd. We had a great brunch with my dad and Trish, and a lovely dinner with my mom and Paul and some more of the fam.  There were coloring books and a light-up chicky, so we were pretty content.  I know these photos aren’t stellar, so thanks for sticking by me! I should be back to norm soon…I keep hoping that I’ll wake up feeling healed and like new, but it is a little more gradual than that.  Read more…

dogs, pastels, and smiles

My grandmother loved dogs. When you walked into the living room of her Oklahoma City house it was immediately obvious.  After the smell of mothballs and perfume, the next thing you couldn’t help but notice was the dog theme.  There were several framed portraits hung above her couch.  The largest picture, in the most ornate frame, was a sketch of a poodle.  The dog portrait was at least twice as big as the photos of her children that held court with the poodle on that wall.  It used to drive me crazy when she was over at our house and would wander in front of the tv to talk to our wheaten terrier.  If a dog was in the room, it was, under no uncertain terms, the focus of her attention.  Read more…

everybody’s working towards the weekend

Well, this week I survived sinus surgery and the crazy tornadoes that touched down about the same time we were driving home from the hospital.  My mom and dad have been saints, seeing as I panic that every bruise, every sensation is a reason to rush me to the hospital.  Sinus surgery is far from pleasant, but I am fine and today the lovely Traci brought me an orchid!  I am hoping that by Sunday I will at least be able to taste the food I am eating again, as both of my parents have delicious Easter Sunday eating festivities planned.  Ok, I am zoning out as I write this, so I will be back on Monday and hopefully not so drowsy.  Have a good weekend. xo

PS- The wedding pictures have arrived! Here is a little peek…

butterflies and whimsy

Inspired by images from The White Deer which I happened upon through the Bldg. 25 Blog, I have a few butterfly favorites. I love the illustrations on The White Deer.  There is a fairytale series that is particularly captivating.
