Well, the reviews are trickling in for The Great Gatsby. It opens May 10, and in honor of Baz and Leo I will be watching Romeo and Juliet, Moulin Rouge, Strictly Ballroom, Titanic, and The Aviator. A good retrospective is just what one needs to satisfy the hype. I reread Gatsby last month. I will always have a special place in my heart for the novel. My middle school English teacher loved it in that infectious way that is totally inspiring. I have that cake/curtain scene seared into memory. So, will this great work of such an unsatisfying love story be brought to screen perfectly by master of glitz, Baz Lurhman? Hmm. Maybe not. However, I think I can totally love the movie as a separate entity. The actors, the music, the visuals of the film are bound to inspire all on their own. Now, ask yourself when was the last time you got to read a movie review by a person who had yet to see the movie. Right? As always, bringing you gold. Did I mention that I wrote this Monday night after waking up at 5:30am AND attending a three hour Vinum Spirit’s Tasting with my new pal AND sitting in two hours of traffic AND spending one of those hours bickering with David. I mean, so many valid excuses for this post. I think that the photo of Leonardo DiCaprio makes up for it just fine.
PS.Did you check out all the Met Gala pics yet? Or the Vogue footage? I thought punk was totally tricky, but some of the ladies pulled it off. Some of them didn’t even really get at punk, but I still loved it. I love how high fashion and over the top it can get. The drama in the ensembles. The only thing that throws it is when the dress is wearing the girl… My favorites were Rooney Mara, Sophia Coppola & Marc Jacobs, Jamie King, Emily Blunt, Donatella Versace, and SJP. And maybe even Lena Dunham and January Jones. I loved Diane Kruger’s pink hair and Ginnifer Goodwin’s makeup. Whew. Any favorites? Or really, any interest?
