play dress up every day

Disclaimer: I do not know what is happening in these photos. I found them on one of my favorite blogs, Jak and Jil. They were taken during fashion week. And I am re-posting them because I feel like they completely embody what I want to talk about today. Which is playing dress up every day.

dress for today

Recently I have felt re-invigorated to dress like there’s no tomorrow every day. I have a major penchant for over the top design. I love the ideas of wearing flowers in your hair, draping your jewels on everyday, and having fun with your clothing. So, I am striving to get myself dressed everyday with the items I really love. During the move from Houston I really had the chance to comb through my belongings. Besides the clothes that don’t fit me right now (a story for another day) I still am not using my accessories and my “fancier” pieces daily. And that is what I want to do. For me, satisfying that itch to showcase my personal style involves slightly over the top, super feminine, and slightly costume feeling pieces. I will admit that I have been asked at work if I am going out that night, when my plans involve dogs and Netflix, but I just smiled.

I think that you have to find what makes you happy in your dress and do that. But I really do fully support getting those items you love on your person. Whether its oxford shoes, flowers, stripes, polka dots or leopard. Subtle or over the top, I just fully believe in dressing with a no-regrets attitude. Wear those “special occasion” items whenever you get a chance, because this is your special occasion. Life is you special occasion. Oh shit, this is getting sappy. Anyways, dress up every day. xo

  1. These are wonderful photos. I feel Frida Khalo had it right dressing like she did with ribbons in her hair and flowers. I was actually thinking about her today and How I would love to do some photoshopping to that effect. I love dress-up. You should do a post with a week worth of your outfits…could be fun.

  2. Wow. These are crazy/amazing pics! I always feel like I have nothing. in terms of great wardrobe pieces…hence my daily ritual of tees, sweatpants and wool socks. I’m trying to figure it out though. If you stayed home all day, would you still be dressing up? xx

  3. Holy flowers! I feel like I’ve gotten more comfortable with my personal style lately, but it’s a little more low-key than I might like–bring on the lipsticks and accessories!
