Summer is rapidly approaching, unless you live somewhere like Houston, in which case summer has already been here for 2 weeks! For the men in your life, that usually means only one thing: busting out the old disgusting flip-flops. I too fall into this trap; it is easy, comfortable and quick. It is also grungy, dirty and boring. So today, I want to show you (and myself) that this tired staple is only needed for the beach; if that!
everyday casual summer men’s shoes options
Let’s start off with the easy go-to shoes. If you think summer footwear, you think boat shoes. And if you think boat shoes, then you should think Sperry. The Authentic Original Top-Sider (1) is something that I think every man should have. If you want something with a bit more visual interest, then go for the Top-Sider A/O 2-Eye Neon (2), which features a contrasting sole. Now if you are not feeling the boat shoe theme, then go for simple and clean canvas shoes, like the Converse Purcell’s (3) or the Keds Champions (4). As a general rule, these should be worn without socks, but if you have to, snag a pair of loafer liners for him.
going out shoes for men on a hot summer night
If your man is going to take you out, he might want to upgrade his footwear; but keep in mind, it is still summer, which means taking a more formal piece and playing with the materials. A great way to do this is to replace the leather look with a suede finish. These Sperry Suede Wing Tips (1) would do the trick, as would these Lacoste Brogues (2). If you want to go for leather, a slightly rougher texture, like in these Cole Haan Wingtips (3), will look great with that lightweight summer suit. Or, you can have your man go all out preppy, with a pair of Oxblood Loafers (4) from Johnston and Murphy.
men’s beach shoes that aren’t flip-flops
At some point, I hope you find yourselves at the beach. Now if there was an appropriate place for a flip-flop, it would be the beach. But if you think he could stand to make a statement, why not go bold with Espadrilles? These Mediterranean shoes, like this Vintage Blue Soludo, are the perfect choice for the shore.
