the gimmes: cartier love bracelet

On any given day you can find me struggling with a serious case of “the gimmes.” So, I have decided to document my material girl side in a series posts called, the gimmes. To start it off, the Cartier Love Bracelet.  So, I have had a love affair going with the Cartier Love Bracelet for a long time.  This fabulous Cartier commercial coupled with seeing the bracelets in person several times recently has reignited the flame.  Sigh, it is a big fat dream, but I love how they can look so classic or can be layered up for a little bit of a boho look.

  1. Oh gosh – I have wanted/pined-over this bracelet for far too long now! It’s so classic + perfect! I wonder if I can start dropping clues around the house for my husband!

  2. I share your obsession for Cartier’s bracelet! Something about how classic + simple it is…

And a big fat “Grrr” to the women who is rocking 3 of them in the picture! Isn’t one enough?! :-)

    • Haha, I know. I had a customer with two on and she might have complained a little about how they make it difficult to get through security. xo

  3. Oh my – yes, I know. I had been lusting after one forever… a year and a half ago, my boyfriend got me one for my birthday! I am so obsessed with it… my favorite possession.

Hmm, can someone explain to me the allure of this? I have the same issue with Tiffany & Co. To me their jewelry is very plain, uninteresting, and boring. Yet people desire it so much. I’d much rather have something handmade/colorful/intricate/unique.

It wouldn’t be such a misunderstanding if their jewelry didn’t cost almost what my rent does for a year (at least this bracelet). The only thing I can think of is the cost of the jewelry drives up demand, to where it’s actually just a symbol of status.

I’m not trying to insult anyone here; I just honestly do not understand the appeal.

  5. This bracelet tugs at my heart strings. I have been lusting after it forever and more than anything, I love what it signifies. Did you know that it comes with a key that your lover is supposed to wear around his neck? That way only he/she can unlock the bracelet. I think there’s something so romantic about that! Plus, you’d never have to take it off anyway, it goes with everything!

  6. Gimme gimme gimme! Okay, I might have to put this on my birthday wish list!

  7. Caroline

Ahhh, I think I’ve beaten how much I LOVE this bracelet into my fiance’s head. I’m like “I will never turn down a red box….”

I also contemplated getting one of these bracelets instead of a wedding ring. Am I crazy?! Glad I’m not alone in this obsession!!

  8. I’m a sucker for understated pieces, and I think this is the height of simple chic–plus, who can resist a little key? I think I’d wear it mixed in with gold twist bangles from Latin America I’ve collected over the years!

  9. Love the idea of your new gimmes series, man do I have those sometimes! I def had one for the love bracelet, ever since I saw liz taylor wearing one many moons ago. I love the design and entire story behind how it is screwed onto you and you can’t take it off. Luckily, my hubs bought me one 4 years ago and it hasn’t been off since!

    • I am glad you like the series, because it is so easy and fun for me to keep on making that list! David really researched into the history and I guess it is supposed to also reference a chastity belt…which gets a little weird. But I love it all. I love that you have one. I am going to go look through your archives and see if I can spot it! xo

  10. Love love love this bracelet. When I see a woman wearing one I feel like she is a princess and someone loved her enough to buy her that bracelet. The look is timeless and chic. Hope i get one someday… :) maybe our ten yr anniv. We just got engaged! So it will hv to wait.
